A Green-Friendly B&B on Bowen IslandWe know from personal experience that many volunteers burn out, and most NGO’s don’t have the necessary funding to pay living wages to their employees. The most important jobs in society are being done by those who earn the least, or nothing! The dedication of volunteers and NGO employees may determine whether or not we survive this century…and most of them can’t afford to take a break, nor go on a vacation! In the past the hosts of Arbutus B&B (aka The Ancient Treehouse”) have offered free accommodations for the Western Canada Wilderness Committee canvassers & Greenpeace crew, and the Otesha Project. We have donated a weekend stay in auctions as fundraisers for The Green Party of BC , and we have also given reduced rates to people working in difficult and demanding jobs that benefit us all, like working with special needs children in group homes. NEW: Do you have a friend who works very hard to sustain our blue-green world – who helps nurture a more compassionate and peaceful society, but earns very little money (or who volunteers)? If so, drop us a line or write an e-mail describing their work (maximum 100 words) and who they work with, include his/her e-mail address or other contact information, and if the information checks out we will enter them into our annual “one free stay for a good guy/gal” bursary draw on January 20th of every year. Arbutus Bed and Breakfast will inform them and you when they have won, and post this on our web site. Silvaine Zimmermann, owner/manager |
